Happy Earth Day!

Today is a day we take a moment and say thank you to Mumma Nature for our beautiful hOMe! As we pause to think of how truly blessed we are, lets also reflect on all the ways we can improve our relationship with her so that our children can enjoy this same health and beauty. What commitments can we make to take better care of our hOMe?

Here is a list of some easy-to-implement tips...

  1. Use recycled toilet paper ~ I love you, but I do not believe that your booty is SO precious that it needs un-recycled paper! Look for recycled material which is processed chlorine free (PCF) to stop literally flushing trees down the toilet!
  2. Compost your food waste ~ not only will you have beautiful nutrients for your garden, you can reduce your household waste by a half.
  3. Get rid of the junk mail ~ approximately 800 pieces of junk mail are delivered to a household every year! How much of that do you actually WANT to receive?
  4. Retrofit your non-conserving toilet (a 3.5 gallon flush or greater) ~ Fill a one-litre plastic bottle with water for each non-conserving toilet in your home, and submerge one bottle in each toilet tank. You will save one litre of water per flush and thousands of gallons a year.
  5. Take short showers ~ A 4 minute shower uses anywhere from 25 litres with the newest low-flow showerheads to 70 litres with the original generation of showerheads. How many minutes can you take off your shower to save one of the most precious resources we have?

Now head outside, find a tree and give Mumma Nature a hug!
