Nice Hat!

Finding internal measures of personal value and beauty is the only way to be truly happy and self-confident long-term.
A woman pondering in the night wearing a stylish hat

The hunt...

Recently I was on a quest to find a new hat; a brimmed, wool, grey hat. I learned on this quest, which lasted a couple years by the way, that I have a small head. A head smaller than what most hats are made for...meaning most look ridiculous.  I tell people that I like my life organized, why wouldn't my brain be a highly efficient filing system not needing to waste space by being oversized?!?...tee hee! Anyways, I digress.

The prize...

After a very long hunt, I found the hat. I love it AND it fits. Ecstatic! To make it even better, the first time I wore it out I got three compliments from complete and total strangers!  Made my day...

The point...

Why am I telling you about my new hat? Finding internal measures of personal value and beauty is the only way to be truly happy and self-confident long-term.  However, how great is it when someone notices an effort you have made?  Much of our society doesn't recommend speaking to strangers, in fact quite the opposite. It is encouraged that you look the other way, keep your thoughts to yourself and don't make eye contact.  But what would happen if we all went out and gave a complete stranger an authentic, out-of-the-blue compliment?  Just imagine the chain of events from that small action! A compliment leads to a smile, which is followed by inspiration to do the same for another, followed by a compliment to another stranger, another smile, another inspired, another compliment...you get the idea. All because of "nice hat", "love your shoes", or "that is a great colour on you". A little burst of love out into the world! The key is, it has to be genuine...we can all spot a fake compliment!

The challenge...

The next time you are out doing errands slow down, look around, and see whose day you can make by simply giving a honest compliment.

Namaste
