Save the Earth Doing Chores...What?!?
Chores. I don't know many people that look at their chore list with a hip-hip-hooray...but the jobs must be done, and as Mother Theresa said, "I do small things with great love". The chores we do, are physical expressions of love for our family and ourselves. It is easy to forget in a sea of laundry, that these seamingly mundane tasks are done to improve the quality of our family's lives (ourselves included). Taking the 'small things with great love' one step farther, here is 5 ways you can get your jobs done, with a little love for Mother Earth too.
- Hang your laundry to dry rather than using the drier. Not only will you be greatly lessening your energy consumption, the life of your clothing will increase.
- Mow the lawn with a push mower, and then compost the clippings to nourish your garden later.
- Choose non-toxic cleaners and be sure to reuse/recycle the containers. You may be amazed to find out the cleaning power of white vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice and tea tree oil!
- Pre-plan your errands so that you can complete everything in as few trips as possible. Not only will you lower the carbon footprint created from driving around in multiple trips, but you will save money on gas AND save time to be spent on summertime play!
- Think about what is going into your indoor air quality. Houseplants will constantly work to clean the air and improve the air quality for you. Open the windows and let a breeze, care of Mother Nature rather than an air conditioner, move out the stale air. Mix your favourite essential oil with some water in a spray bottle to spritz with scent, rather than using air fresheners with all sorts of chemical fragrances.
Now for that laundry...I do small things with great love...I do small things with great love...I do small things with great love...
