Unique Meditation Spaces

Meditation in the Street

I have often been asked how it is possible I have space to meditate ~ space in its many forms. Space in my schedule. Space in my home. Space in my energy levels. I think the biggest misinterpretation with meditation, is in how many perceive it *should* look. Placed in the most beautiful, serene location in Padmasana (lotus pose) in perfect silence. You all know that I don't believe in *shoulding* on yourself...ever! Sure it's lovely enjoying a picture perfect meditation, but the trick is creating opportunity for stillness even when the setting isn't picture perfect...in fact, that is often when you need it the most! What am I talking about? Some of the more unique locations I have created a little bubble of stillness...

  • during a university exam (yup, right in the middle of it!)
  • standing at the base of a glacier in New Zealand
  • in the hot pools of Harrison Hot Springs (hot spring yoga is also divine, by the way)
  • on the side of the high way in my car at the spot where a dear childhood friend lost his life
  • during labour in the bathtub
  • beside the fire when camping
  • on a pull-out hospital bed in the paediatrics ward next to my sleeping, oh-so-strong babe

Never underestimate the power of slowing down to breathe and re-focus your energy. The most unconventional locations, may just be the ones where you need that bubble of stillness the most!

Not comfortable meditating without a little guidance? Why not load your iPod with one of our free audio guided meditations? Then where ever you are on the go, you are ready to pause and breathe...on the bus to work, before climbing into bed, lunch room before walking into an important meeting...anywhere!

Enjoy! Om
